Little Museum of Dublin - Dublin’s Best Museum Experience

Voted “Dublin's best museum experience” by the Irish Times, the Little Museum of Dublin tells the remarkable history of the city in the 20th Century and is rightfully considered one of the top things to do in Dublin.

The museum is housed across three levels in a stunning Georgian Townhouse on Dublin’s St. Stephen’s Green, and is made up of historical objects gathered after a call out to Dubliners to share some of their old belongings.

Described as ‘quirky and eccentric’ by Conde Nest Travel, the museum’s charming rooms are packed with items of historical significance from 20th century Dublin. From the lectern used by JFK on his 1963 visit to Ireland, to historic Dublin milk bottles, Aer Lingus ads, bus scrolls, and even an original copy of the letter given to the Irish envoys to the treaty negotiations of 1921.

Visitors can soak up a unique and tranquil atmosphere in the landscaped gardens at the rear of the museum. A world away from the busy city in just a few hundred metres, the south-facing oasis in the heart of the city centre also connect to the secret walled park in Iveagh Gardens. Two protected trees are contained within the enclosure, one of which is the ash tree that James Joyce had his graduation photograph taken beneath.

You’ll also find a garden terrace where, weather permitting, you can enjoy breakfast or lunch in beautiful leafy surroundings. Food and refreshments are courtesy of The Commons, a café run by Domini and Peaches Kemp that is set in the original student dining halls of the building. WHERE TO FIND THE LITTLE MUSEUM OF DUBLIN

The Little Museum of Dublin is located at 15 St. Stephen's Green, Dublin, close to the iconic Shelbourne Hotel.

Hop-On Hop-Off Tour

Our green sightseeing tours stop at St. Stephen's Green, just across the road from the Little Museum. The red City Sightseeing also stops across the road too, as does Big Bus Tours Dublin. It is a great chance to hop off and visit some of the attractions close by to Little Museum, such as the beautiful National Museum, a free attraction providing a great family day out.

Dublin Bus

Many Dublin Bus routes pass close to the museum. Plan your journey with Dublin Bus.

Walk

O'Connell Bridge is just 1km away from the Little Museum. On your walk, you will stroll by the front of Trinity College where you can visit the world renowned Book of Kells and then continue your walk up Grafton Street by Brown Thomas and Bewley's Cafe. It will only take 13 minutes to walk directly, but the chances are there will be plenty to stop and visit on your way!

Cycle

Cycling is a great way to travel to see around The Little Museum and sights around St. Stephen's Green. There is a Dublin Bike station at the southern gate of Trinity on Lenister Street and another Dublin Bike station on Stephen's green. It would be less than two minute cycle directly but enjoy the cycle around the historic area.

Luas

There are two Luas stops very close to the door of the museum. One Luas stop is on St. Stephen's Green or alternatively, explore some of the book shops while making your way to the Luas stop on Dawson's Street. Plan your journey with Luas.
